Finding cancer centers and doctors

Because mesothelioma is both complex and relatively rare, it is important for mesothelioma patients to be cared for by a physician and treatment team that is thoroughly knowledgeable about its treatment, including the most recent research findings.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has identified 39 major research and patient care institutions called throughout the United States which support broad-based, coordinated, interdisciplinary programs in cancer research and treatment. Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, these facilities offer patient care that draws on the most current research. Comprehensive Cancer Centers offer the greatest assurance of expert, state of the art care for patients facing a diagnosis of mesothelioma. A list of these centers by state can be found on the NCI's website, www.cancer.gov.

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF) www.marf.org maintains a list of surgeons, oncologists, and pathologists with specialized expertise in the treatment of mesothelioma.
